The San Diego SeaLions (3-0-1) held an inter-squad charity match on June 30 at Cathedral Catholic High School. All proceeds from the game were donated to The Chisomo Idea, an international humanitarian organization that uses soccer to make a difference in the lives of children in the country of Malawi. The Chisomo Idea was founded by Noel Musicha and his wife, former SeaLions’ player, Melissa Musicha.
“It’s always a privilege to be able to give back just by doing what you love,” said SeaLions’ Co-Captain Danica Carey. “Soccer has definitely always been a huge positive influence in my life, and I am happy to support a program that spreads the love in that way.”
The SeaLions split into two teams during the afternoon, one blue and one white. In recognition of the two most prolific goal scorers in the women’s game, team white was known as “Team Abby [Wambach]”, while the blue was named “Team Mia [Hamm]”. Team Abby ended up with a 2-1 edge over Team Mia.
