Helen Woodward Animal Center’s belief in the magic of the human-animal bond takes a mischievous twist at the 5th Annual Puppy Love 5k presented by Blue Buffalo this weekend. Hoping to harness some St. Patty’s Day luck for the Center’s orphan pets, plans include turning Scenic Highway 101 into a rainbow road complete with adoptable pup-rechauns lined up to say a very special surprise “thank you” to race participants. In addition to two separate races (running at 8 a.m. and walking at 8:20 a.m.), the festivities will feature St. Patrick’s Day-themed fun at the “After Paw-ty” in the Wagging Wellness Village. Families and teams will gather to celebrate their luck of having found fabulous furry friends with music, a human-canine costume contest, dog agility, food, dozens of interactive health and pet related booths and kid’s activities including face painting and take-home crafts.

Registration begins at 7 a.m. and then the race kicks off at 8 a.m. with Celebrity Grand Marshals Brandi Williams from KUSI News starting the run and Surf Dog Dozer leading the Walk. Following the race, Magic 92.5’s Jagger and Kristi, as well as L’Auberge’s Del Mar Luxury Pet Host, Sofie, will serve as host and judges during the Lucky Dog Costume Contest and the Dog & Owner Pairs Costume Contest.

This annual event is good for your heart in two ways: great exercise for you and your pet and the happy-hearted satisfaction of knowing that all proceeds support the pets and programs of Helen Woodward Animal Center. Race entry for the 5thAnnual Puppy Love 5K is $35 for adult runners and walkers and $15 for junior runners and walkers with great team discounts available.
