CCA Scholarship Award Ceremony
A total of $32,150 in scholarship funds was donated to a group of fifty-seven extraordinary seniors at Canyon Crest Academy (CCA) at the recent Canyon Crest Academy Dollars for Scholars Awards Ceremony. According to Beth Broussalian, CCA Dollars for Scholars Board President, “This was the highest number of awards and scholarship funds that our chapter has funded in a single year since the organization started seven years ago.”
Beth explained that the 2014 recipients were judged based off of a rubric that evaluated details of the students’ extracurricular activities, leadership experience, honors, awards, and academic achievements. As for the types of scholars who received the awards, Beth stated, “The recipients excelled in academics, athletics, and the arts both at CCA and in the community.” She elaborated, “These talented seniors are planning majors as diverse as neuroscience, film, environmental engineering, computer science, music, industrial design, and theater.”
Two of the award recipients, Jackson Backer and Quin Patterson were also recognized as Del Mar-Solana Beach Rotary award scholarship winners as well. Both were presented with $500 scholarships by Kevin Cahill, founding President of the Del Mar-Solana Beach Rotary Club.
The CCA Dollars for Scholars would like to extend a thank you to all of the donors who made this year’s awards ceremony possible. Scholarship funding came from CCA families and alumni, the community, and the generous individual donors of the Dollars for Scholars fundraising programs of CCA Directory, graduation lei sales, and Driver’s Ed. Corporate scholarship sponsors included the Del Mar/Solana Beach Optimist Club, Del Mar-Solana Beach Rotary Club, Hansen Surfboards, ITW Foundation, North Shore Girls Softball, Pardee Homes, Rancho Santa Fe Rotary, Wells Fargo-Torrey Hills Branch, and Mission Federal Credit Union, who also sponsored the awards ceremony.
CCA Dollars for Scholars fundraising events will continue with upcoming Driver’s Ed classes from Aug. 18 through 21 at CCA. Visit www.canyoncrest.dollarsforscholars.org for more details.
