Simply Solana

family_coffin2Brian and Jane Coffin have resided in Solana Beach for more than 17 years.  “We love it because it’s beautiful, near the beach, and has a small community feel, as well as fun restaurants and shops,” shared Jane, who, together with Brian and their two teenage daughters, Phoebe and Leah, feels that Solana Beach is the ideal community. “It’s near two of our passions – the water and horses,” explained Jane. “It’s great because we have the ocean in our backyard. It’s also just a short drive to amazing equestrian facilities where our daughter trains, shows, and has kept her pony over the years.”

Between the four of them, the Coffin family stays active. Brian, who is a Senior Vice President Portfolio Manager at Morgan Stanley, located in Rancho Santa Fe (where he has worked for the past 21 years), is an avid surfer. “Brian surfs on a daily basis,” said Jane. Phoebe, a senior at Torrey Pines High School, rides horses competitively – something she has been doing most of her life. “She competes on the A Circuit in Hunter/Jumper divisions,” explained Jane. “Leah is a freshman at Torrey Pines and swims year-round for the Rancho San Dieguito swim team.”

“We love it because it’s beautiful, near the beach, has a small community feel, as well as fun restaurants and shops.”

family_coffin3Aside from school and sports, both Coffin girls make an effort to volunteer, working with kids through their peer tutoring and summer camp programs. “They also enjoy being a part of National Charity League, a mother-daughter organization focused on volunteering and leadership development,” added Jane, who herself spends a lot of time giving back to the community.

Apart from frequenting their local beaches and attending swimming and equestrian events, the Coffins enjoy skiing together and making family trips to Montana. Of course, they always make sure to hit up some of their much-loved Solana Beach spots, including Masuo’s Sushi, Board ‘n Brew, Del Mar Dog Beach, and the Solana Beach rail trail. “We’ve lived in several beach towns over the years,” shared Jane, “but Solana Beach is definitely our favorite one!”
