More than $93,000 Raised at Solana Beach Golf and Tennis Tournament
Aces for Health
Champions for Health, formerly known as the San Diego County Medical Society Foundation, recognized their 2016 Health Heroes at the awards reception at Lomas Santa Fe Country Club. The Health Heroes event culminated after a day of golf and tennis – the day raised almost $100,000 for the organization’s flagship program, Project Access San Diego. The program coordinates donated specialty healthcare services for uninsured community residents, including surgeries, imaging, and medical appointments with physician volunteers.
Recognized heroes included: Kaiser Permanente Team Saturday Surgery Day, represented by Paul Bernstein, M.D., medical director for Kaiser Permanente San Diego; Sandra Freiwald, M.D., surgeon; Daniel “Stony” Anderson, M.D., president of the California Colorectal Cancer Coalition and longtime Kaiser physician; and Shreya Sasaki, M.P.H., community benefits manager.
Also recognized were physicians Hernan Goldsztein, M.D. and his partner Moses Salgado, M.D., of Pacific ENT in Solana Beach; James Grisolia, M.D., neurologist; Stephanie Rosas, volunteer medical interpreter; long-time volunteer and board member Bob DeSimone, owner of The Doctors Insurance Agency; and The Doctors Company medical malpractice insurer. Bob DeSimone was event chair and was honored with the Spirit Award for his countless hours helping inaugurate Champions for Health’s signature fundraisers.
Champions for Health was chosen as the organization’s new name to recognize the wide range of healthcare professionals and volunteers committed to the mission, and to highlight the agency’s expanded focus on health and wellness in addition to access to healthcare.
