Ten local physicians were recognized for their pro bono services at the Champions for Health Annual Health Heroes Awards at Lomas Santa Fe Country Club in late March. The awards reception followed a golf and tennis tournament benefitting Champions for Health’s flagship program, Project Access San Diego (PASD). “Our physician volunteers are critical to our ability to serve more than 800 uninsured patients in San Diego County each year,” said Champions for Health CEO Barbara Mandel. “The specialized skill and time these physicians generously donate has led to many San Diegans regaining their health, returning to work, and being able to once again take care of their families.”

Kevin Yoo, MD, received the Above & Beyond Award for his life-saving brain/spine surgeries for 12 PASD patients. The eight physician partners of IGO Medical Group received the Health Champion Award for their dedication to caring for more than 80 female PASD patients with chronic gynecologic issues. Longtime volunteer, board member, and first PASD medical community liaison Rosemarie Marshall Johnson, MD, was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award. Learn more at www.championsforhealth.org.
