Play Ball!

For seventh grader Andrew Ramirez, baseball is a way of life. “I have been playing baseball for seven years. The sport has taught me to work hard, and I practice on my own even when I’m not playing with my team,” revealed Andrew, who plays third base and outfield. Last year, Andrew played in his final season of Solana Beach Little League and it was an unforgettable experience for him. “I was determined to do my best, and I was selected for the All-Star team. It was great to learn more and do what I love,” stated Andrew. He recently made the North County Mavericks, a competitive club team, and is thoroughly enjoying this new challenge.

His family has a long history of playing baseball, particularly in Solana Beach. “My dad played baseball in Solana Beach Little League when he was young. He inspired me to become involved in the sport, and it really has become a passion of mine,” related Andrew.

Off the field, Andrew enjoys learning about science and technology at Earl Warren Middle School and feels very strongly about giving back to the community where his family has lived for more than 40 years. Each summer, Andrew volunteers for the Kids Games at Solana Beach Presbyterian Church. “Kids Games is a week-long event that I attended when I was younger,” he said. “I love going back as a student volunteer. I am able to connect with the younger kids and help them have the same great experience I had.”

This student athlete and community volunteer is already thinking of the future and has big plans in mind. “My dream is to play college baseball and study computer engineering or business management,” said Andrew, who describes himself as having a relentless drive to improve on his baseball and academic skills. He is inspired by his hard-working family and strives each and every day to make them proud. Andrew is one to watch as he continues on his path to success, both on and off the baseball field.
