The McConville Family Values the Solana Beach Lifestyle
Finding Their Perfect Fit
The McConville family’s move to Solana Beach in 2010 was a decision years in the making. Living in Clairemont, Peter and Beth wanted to move north to a community with great schools, a good neighborhood vibe, and a central location. “Peter literally spent years researching the best neighborhood for us,” Beth said. “Solana Beach was the perfect fit.”
Their home today is not far from where the couple met their freshmen year at University of California San Diego. They married in 1991 in La Jolla and spent time in Hawaii and Gig Harbor, WA before returning to San Diego. Beth has worked as an occupational therapist at Scripps Memorial Hospital for 17 years. Peter has been the director of managed care for Advanced Diabetes Supply for the past 10 years.
Their three children, Jessie, Mia, and Max, have enjoyed all the activities close to home – Junior Lifeguards, the library, and the swim team. Today, Jessie is a sophomore at UC Berkeley studying business. Mia, a senior at Canyon Crest Academy (CCA), plays lacrosse and has a black belt in taekwondo. She is considering a career as an elementary teacher. Their youngest, Max, plays soccer, lacrosse, and is on the swim team at Earl Warren Middle School. “He also has a following of neighborhood families who compete for his babysitting services!” Beth said.
The family enjoys the beach, playing games, road trips, hiking, and volunteering. They serve together for Casas de Luz, building small homes for families in Tijuana, Mexico. “Over the course of two days, the participants go to TJ and build the home from the ground up,” Peter explained. “You arrive on a Saturday morning to a cement slab, and leave on Sunday afternoon handing the keys to a furnished home to the new owners.” The kids have even gotten their schools involved in the efforts. Jessie was the president of the Casas de Luz club at CCA and served as an intern helping with fundraising and building. Max recently started the club at Earl Warren.
Finding their perfect fit in Solana Beach was well worth the effort and wait. The family acknowledged they have so much to love about the location, the schools, and their neighborhood. “We have an annual block party that has been ongoing for 35 plus years,” Beth said. “And we started an Easter Bike Parade on the block for the last seven years. So much fun.”
