Launch Generation Prepares Today’s Teens for Future Success

The outlook for jobs and careers for today’s teenagers is rapidly changing. Launch Generation prepares teenagers for the future through unconventional summer programs focused on financial literacy, leadership, and entrepreneurship, all while having fun. Launch Generation San Diego is a 12-day overnight program, structured as a hybrid between a conference and a summer camp, held July 11 through 22 at the UC San Diego Rady School of Management.

Teens ages 14 to 18 from around the world work in groups to create an innovative and sustainable business idea that they present at the end of the program. No two days of the program are the same; daily sessions include engaging workshops on goal-setting, personal finance, negotiation skills, leadership challenges, business etiquette, visits to local businesses like GoPro, and mentoring with industry-leading experts from successful companies such as Starbucks. Participants are encouraged to be autonomous and independent while Launch Generation staff ensures safety and accountability.

Program staff members are carefully vetted and selected to act as role models, catalysts, and educators. “Our participant to staff ratio is 5:1,” said Launch Generation Co-Founders Whitney Webb and Alexis Woodford Demko, “and we employ an eclectic mix of professionals, entrepreneurs, and creatives of all ages and walks of life to inspire and collaborate with this next generation of leaders.” Whitney and Alexis themselves bring over a decade of combined experience in financial education, entrepreneurial training, private family consulting, leadership development, and launching and selling startups.

Launch Generation also offers a small group program called Launch Intensive that focuses on goal-setting and career development, as well as a two-day program called Launch Etiquette, focused on business etiquette and effective communication.

“Our programs have had amazing feedback,” Whitney and Alexis said, “and participants often credit their experience with giving them a competitive advantage on their college applications and job/internship prospects and, most importantly, the confidence needed to create a successful future.”
