North Coastal Sheriff’s Station Welcomes New Captain
Meet Captain Taft
The San Diego County Sheriff’s North Coastal Station, which serves the communities of Encinitas, Del Mar, Solana Beach, and Rancho Santa Fe, has a new captain, Herbert M. Taft. He officially assumed his position in mid-August, taking over for Captain John Maryon, who was promoted to the commander of the county’s Court Services Bureau.
“You reach those goals by having an open dialogue with residents and taking action as needed.”
Captain Taft attended Boston University and University of California, Davis, and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in biology. He served 12 years in the Navy as an officer and has been with the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department for 19 years serving in a variety of roles. In his new role as captain, he is most looking forward to getting to know the needs of the community and understanding how to best serve them. “I hope to build a relationship of trust and understanding that I am very invested in the community,” he said. “You reach those goals by having an open dialogue with residents and taking action as needed.” Captain Taft encourages anyone who has concerns about something law enforcement should be aware of to call or stop by the station. “No issue is too small,” he said.
Community members are invited to meet Captain Taft at regularly scheduled Coffee with the Community events. The next event will be held on Oct. 24 for the City of Del Mar. Events for Solana Beach and Encinitas will be scheduled soon. Stay updated on upcoming events at www.nextdoor.com. For more information go to www.sdsheriff.net.
