Del Mar Hills Academy was among 30 schools in California recently recognized as National Blue Ribbon Schools by the U.S. Department of Education. The program recognizes public and private elementary, middle, and high schools based on their overall academic excellence or their progress in closing achievement gaps among student subgroups. Only 312 public and 50 non-public schools across the country were chosen for the distinction this year, with just three from San Diego County, including Carlsbad Unified School District’s Aviara Oaks Elementary School and San Diego Unified School District’s Torrey Pines Elementary School.

“This recognition is well-deserved, and special thanks go to the educators and the school communities that meet students’ unique needs in order for all of their students to reach their full potential,” said State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Thurmond.

Now in its 37th year, the National Blue Ribbon Schools Program has recognized more than 9,000 schools. The 2019 recipients will be honored during a special awards ceremony in Washington, D.C. in November.
