Magdalena Ecke Family YMCA
The Magdalena Ecke Family YMCA (Ecke YMCA) is gearing up for another fantastic summer, with over 140 different camp offerings for campers ages 5 to 17. Camps are offered in nine categories: traditional, animal, aquatic, specialty, educational, sports, itty-bitty, and Teen. Camp officially runs from 8 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. – though before and aftercare is available.
The Ecke YMCA prides itself on a focus of safety, fun, and building relationships. Parents and guardians can rest assured knowing that the camp management team has a combined 75 years of camp experience, and camp leaders receive 30 hours of training, with unit leaders receiving 60, ensuring the safest environment for all participants and staff. All camps are accredited by the American Camp Association.
The Ecke YMCA takes full advantage of the fun San Diego has to offer. They visit San Diego staples such as SeaWorld, the San Diego Zoo, and Legoland, as well as local beaches up and down the coast. They also have a one-of-a-kind aquatic park at their Carlsbad Lagoon site, where campers can do everything from kayaking, paddleboarding, jumping on the water trampoline, sliding down water slides, and launching off the blob. This unique setting is home to one of the YMCA’s most popular camps, CAMP H2O.
Camp Director Krista Russell explained, “We partner with many local organizations who share a similar mission to the YMCA of San Diego. These include Coastal Roots Farm, Junior Achievement of San Diego County, local parks, and beaches, as well as multiple schools in the area.” Camps such as VolunTeen and Leaders in Training provide volunteer services to the community.
